Strategic Positioning & Messaging Review for The Modern Migrant
Thank you for taking the time to review this brief.
If the project interests you, I'd love you to email me with:
- Your portfolio and relevant examples of strategic positioning work
- An estimated project fee
- A brief outline of how you would approach the work
If it feels like a good fit, I'll arrange a short call so we can discuss the project further.
What I'm Looking For:
I'm looking for a strategic brand and messaging partner who excels at turning complex ideas into clear, compelling positioning.
More than anything, I'm looking for clarity rather than creativity for its own sake. I value people who listen carefully, challenge assumptions thoughtfully, and build strategy around the work itself rather than applying a generic branding process.
The Modern Migrant already has a strong intellectual foundation, visual identity, website, podcast, and growing body of writing. What I need now is someone to step back, assess the whole ecosystem, and ensure it communicates one coherent story before launch.
Current public platforms:
Substack
https://themodernmigrant.substack.com
Podcast
The Modern Migrant (Spotify)
Additional materials, including my website, framework, offers, and supporting assets will be shared once the project begins.
Background
The Modern Migrant began as an exploration of the psychological and sociological experience of living between cultures.
As the work evolved, the centre of gravity shifted.
Today, migration is the lens rather than the subject.
The platform explores how inherited stories, social systems, language, and structures of recognition shape identity. Drawing from sociology, philosophy, and decolonial thought, it translates complex theory into language people can immediately recognise in their own lives.
The central insight is simple:
Many of the experiences we interpret as personal are shaped by stories and systems we did not create.
Migration often makes those invisible structures visible, but they influence all of us.
That shift has broadened both the audience and the ambition of the platform.
What The Modern Migrant Does
The Modern Migrant translates social theory into lived experience.
Through essays, conversations, learning experiences, and original frameworks, it helps people understand the invisible forces shaping identity, belonging, recognition, and the stories they inherit.
Rather than simplifying theory, it makes it usable.
The aim is to help people move from confusion to recognition, and ultimately towards conscious authorship.
The platform currently includes:
- Essays (Substack)
- Podcast
- Workshops
- Cohort learning experiences
- Speaking
- Community (future)
Its core intellectual property is The Identity Gap™, a framework exploring the relationship between:
Stories → Systems → Recognition → Identity → Authorship
guided by the principle: Stories are infrastructure.
Audience
The primary audience is people who have felt they needed to translate, edit, or monitor themselves in order to belong.
That may happen across cultures, organisations, professions, class, language, leadership, or social mobility.
They are thoughtful readers, professionals, creatives, leaders, and lifelong learners.
The migrant experience provides the perspective but it is not the boundary of the audience.
A secondary audience includes organisations seeking more thoughtful conversations around recognition, belonging, identity, culture, and the invisible systems shaping workplace experience.
Brand Position
I want The Modern Migrant to be recognised as an intellectual platform that makes complex ideas accessible without diluting them.
The ambition is to occupy the space between academic theory and everyday life.
The writing should feel rigorous but readable.
Serious but never inaccessible.
Thought-provoking without becoming abstract.
I do not want the work positioned as:
- coaching
- self-help
- wellness
- motivational speaking
- pop psychology
- academic writing written only for academics
The value lies in combining intellectual depth with practical recognition.
What I Need
Rather than a complete rebrand, I'm looking for a strategic review of the existing brand before launch.
Specifically, I'm looking for guidance on:
Positioning
- Overall strategic positioning
- Category definition
- Audience clarity
- Competitive differentiation
- The role of The Modern Migrant as the master brand
Messaging
- Core narrative
- Value proposition
- Messaging architecture
- Messaging pillars
- Editorial positioning
- Tone and language guidance
- Boilerplate copy (short, medium and long)
Brand Architecture
- Offer architecture
- Relationship between the platform, podcast, Substack, workshops and flagship programmes
- Clear hierarchy of products and intellectual property
Website & Customer Journey
A strategic review of the website to ensure the messaging, navigation, and customer journey communicate the platform clearly.
I'm less interested in design feedback than in whether someone arriving for the first time immediately understands:
- What this is
- Why it matters
- Who it is for
- Why they should stay
Launch Recommendations
Finally, I'd value an external strategic perspective on what still needs strengthening before launch.
In particular, I'd like someone to challenge the positioning and answer a simple but important question:
Why should someone choose The Modern Migrant over the many other writers, podcasts, newsletters, and thinkers exploring identity today?
That level of strategic clarity is ultimately what I'm looking for.
